On June 19th, as part of my Summer Solstice weekend, I visited the Whitney Museum to see the exhibit of photographer, Dawoud Bey.
Born 1953, Dawoud Bey has documented Black communities with his camera and views photography not only as a form of personal expression but as an act of political responsibility.
This exhibit traces his earliest street portraits in Harlem to his most recent series imagining an escape from slavery on the Underground Railroad.
